2010 Signings

#5 Charlotte Conaway

Charlotte verbally committed to attend the University of Rhode Island on August 14. The head coach of the Rams is Erin Layton, who finished her fist season in 2009. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Rhode Island is located in the historic village of Kingston, thirty miles south of Providence at its main campus and close to the ocean and major beaches. Their home field is on campus at the softball complex.

The A-10 Conference softball members are U of NC Charlotte, U of Dayton, Fordham U, George Washington U, LaSalle U, U of Massachusetts Amherst, U of Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure U, St. Joseph's U, St. Louis U and Temple U.

#15 Kate Laughlin

Kate verbally committed to attend Kutztown University on November 3. The head coach of the Golden Bears is Judy Lawes, who finished her twenty-second season in 2009 and named the PSAC East Coach of the Year. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Kutztown is located in a beautiful rural Pennsylvania Dutch land of Berks County, PA, conveniently located midway between Reading and Allentown. Their home field is on campus at North Campus Softball Field. The Golden Bears finished with a 46-12-1 overall record, 15-1 in the PSAC East, third in the PSAC Championships and second in the NCAA Atlantic Super Regionals. Lawes has had a winning season in every one of her twenty-two seasons and was named the PSAC East Coach of the Year in 1989, 1994, 2000 and 2007.

The PSAC East softball members are Bloomsburg U, California U of PA, Clarion U, East Stroudsburg U, Edinboro U, Gannon, Indiana U of PA, Kutztown U, Lock Haven U, Mansfield U of PA, Mercyhurst, Millersville U, Shippensburg U, Slippery Rock U of PA, and West Chester U of PA.

#30 Jillian Murray

Jillian verbally committed to attend West Chester University on October 11. The head coach of the Golden Rams is Diane Lokey, who finished her sixth season in 2009. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

West Chester is located in and near the borough of West Chester, PA. Their home field is on campus at the softball complex. The Golden Rams finished with a record of 28-20 overall in 2009 and reached the NACC Atlantic Regional for the second consecutive season. In 2008 they set a school record of 32-13 overall, and Lokey was selected as the PSAC East Coach of the Year.

#10 Melissa Robinson

Melissa verbally committed to attend Lafayette College on October 11. The head coach of the Leopards is Jaime Wallin, who will begin her first season in 2010. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Patriot League.

Lafayette is located in Easton and benefits from a strategic "gateway" to the Lehigh Valley and PA. Crossing The Lehigh and Delaware Rivers provide scenic vistas while the approach on US 22 along Buskill Creek is a unique experience. Their home field is at the Metzgar Fields Athletic complex on the Metzgar campus. The Leopards reached the Patriot League championship in 2009 for the second consecutive season and finished as runner-up.

The Patriot League softball members are U.S Military A (Army), Bucknell U, Colgate U, C of Holy Cross, Lafayette C and Lehigh U.

2009 Signings

#34 Tish Derer

Tish verbally committed to attend Monmouth University on October 13 and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on November 18. The head coach of the Hawks is Carol Sullivan, who finished her seventh season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Northeast Conference.

Monmouth is located in a residential community of West Long Branch, NJ, one mile from the Atlantic Ocean on the scenic Jersey shore. Their home field is on campus at the Hawk Diamond. The Hawks finished an unprecedented 31-18 overall in 2007 and Carol Sullivan was named the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year.

The NEC softball members are Central Connecticut State U, Fairleigh Dickinson U, Long Island U, Monmoutn U, Mount St. Mary's U, Quinnipiac U, Robert Morris U, Sacred Heart U, St. Francis U (PA) and Wagner C.

#24 Meghan Kissinger

Meghan verbally committed to attend Ithaca College in April. The head coach of the Bombers is Deb Pallozzi, who finished her twentieth season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division III program and in the Empire 8 Conference.

Ithaca is located in the heart of New York state's beautiful Finger Lakes region, roughly halfway between Manhattan and Toronto. Their home field is on campus at the Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers captured its first national championship in 2002 with a 37-13 record and Deb Pallozzi was named the Empire 8 Coach of the Year, her fifth in the past eight years. The Bobmers appeared in twelve consecutive NCAA playoff appearances, winning the regional title in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2008.

The E8 softball members are Alfred U, Elmira C, Ithaca C, Nazareth C, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher C and Utica C.

#3 Kelli Lyons

Kelli verbally committed to attend Towson University in late September and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on November 18. The head coach of the Tigers is Lisa Costello, who finished her thirteenth season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Towson is located in the heart of suburban Towson, MD, eight miles north of Baltimore. Their home field is on campus at the Towson Center Field. The Tigers set a record in 2005 with a 38-19 overall record and finished second at the CAA Championships. They had nine winning seasons in the last ten years under Lisa Costello and was named the Colonial Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2005.

The CAA softball members are Drexel U, George Mason U, Georgia State U, Hofstra U, James Madison U, Towson U, U of Delaware and U of North Carolina Wilmington.

#18 Elise Rosanio

Elise verbally committed to attend the University of New Haven in late October. The head coach of the Chargers is Jen Starek, who finished her second season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Northeast-10 Conference.

New Haven is located in south central part of the state in West Haven, CT, atop a hill overlooking Long Island Sound and downtown New Haven. Their home field is on campus at the Charger softball and Vieira fields. The Chargers posted a 26-19 record in their first season under Jen Starek.

The NE-10 softball members are American International C, Assumption C, Bentley U, Franklin Pierce U, Le Moyne C, Merrimack C, U of New Haven, Pace U, St. Anselm C, St. Michael's C, C of St. Rose, Southern Connecticut State U, Southern New Hampshire U, Stonehill C and U of Massachusetts Lowell.

#33 Gina Sciarrone

Gina committed to attend Temple University in November. The head coach of the Owls is Joe DiPietro, who begins his first season in 2009, succeeding Casey Dickson. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Temple is located just north of center city Philadelphia, surrounded by the arts, music, intellectual and culture scene. Their home field is on the Ambler campus at the Ambler Softball field.

#22 Jennifer Stow

Jenn committed to attend Kutztown University in early November. The head coach of the Golden Bears is Judy Lawes, who finished her twenty-first season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Kutztown is located in a beautiful rural Pennsylvania Dutch land of Berks County, PA, conveniently located midway between Reading and Allentown. Their home field is on campus at North Campus Softball Field. The Golden Bears finished another record-setting year with a 48-14 overall record, 21-3 in the PSAC East and placed third in the PSAC Championships. Lawes has had a winning year in every one of her twenty-one seasons and was named the PSAC East Coach of the Year in 1989, 1994, 2000 and 2007.

#6 Brooke Von Pusch

Brooke committed to attend Drexel University in April. The head coach of the Dragons is Kim Camara, who finished her third season in 2008. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Drexel is located within walking distance from center city Philadelphia, located adjacent to campus in the historic Powelton Village section of University City. Their home field is on campus at the Vidas Athletic Complex.

The CAA softball members are Drexel U, George Mason U, Georgia State U, Hofstra U, James Madison U, Towson U, U of Delaware and U of North Carolina Wilmington.

2008 Signings

#8 Brianne Birtell

Brianne verbally committed to attend Delaware Valley College in late January. The head coach of the Aggies is Rich Matarese, who finished his fourth season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division III program and in the Freedom Conference, part of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation.

Delaware Valley is located in historic Doylestown, PA, about 30 miles north of Philadelphia. The Aggies were 16-14 overall and Rich Matarese was named the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year.

The MASCAC softball members are Albright C, Arcadia U, Delaware Valley C, DeSales U, Elizabethtown C, Fairleigh Dickinson U, King's C, Lebanon Valley C, Lycoming C, Manhattanville C, Messiah C, Widener U and Wilkes U.

#42 Heather Brabazon

Heather verbally committed to attend St. Joseph's University in September on a softball scholarship and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on November 20. The head coach of the Hawks is Terri Adams, who finished her first season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

St. Joseph's is located on the western border of Philadelphia, residing in both the city and the suburb of Lower Merion. Their primary field is East Norriton Field, located in East Norriton, PA and has been home for the past eleven seasons. The Hawks posted an impressive 106-40-1 record, including a perfect 10-0 record at home in 2003.

#4 Breanna DiTommaso

Breanna verbally committed to attend LaSalle University in early December and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on April 20. The head coach of the Explorers is Joe DiPietro, who finished his fourth season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

LaSalle is located near center city Philadelphia as the main campus and home games are played on campus at the Good Shepherd field.

The A-10 Conference softball members are U of NC Charlotte, U of Dayton, Fordham U, George Washington U, U of Massachusetts Amherst, LaSalle U, U of Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure U, St. Joseph's U, St. Louis U and Temple U.

#55 Erin Gallagher

Erin verbally committed to attend St. Joseph's University in mid July on a softball scholarship and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on November 19. The head coach of the Hawks is Terri Adams, who finished her first season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

#9 Emily Grzywna

Emily verbally committed to attend Widener University in March. The Pride head coach is Fred Dohrmann, who finished his twenty-sixth season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division III program and in Freedom Conference, part of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation.

Widener is located in Chester, PA as the main campus, between the cities of Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE. In 1998 they shared the Eastern College Athletic Conference title. They also won the PAIAW championship in 1990 and 1991 and were co-champions of the Middle Atlantic Conference Southeast Division in 1992.

#72 Carly Sippel

Carly verbally committed to attend Holy Family University in late October and officially signed her National Letter of Intent in early November. The head coach of the Tigers is Mickey McGroarty, who finished his fifteenth season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Holy Family is located in northeast Philadelphia as the main campus and home games are played at the Northeast campus. In 2007 the Tigers was second in the conference in hitting with a .293 average and third in hits with 410. Under coach McGroarty his team has compiled an overall record of 352-224-4. He has been a four time recipient of Coach of the Year honors (1994, 1998, 1999 and 2000).

The CACC softball members are Bloomfield C, Caldwell C, Dominican C, Felician C, Georgian Court U, Goldey-Beacom C, Holy Family U, Nyack C, Philadelphia U, Post U, U of Sciences Philadelphia and Wilmington U.

#99 Shannon Skomorucha

Shannon verbally committed to attend LaSalle University and officially signed her National Letter of Intent on November 14. The head coach of the Explorers is Joe DiPietro, who finished his fourth season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division I program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

#17 Shannon Stocklin

Shannon verbally committed to attend Washington College in early January. The head coach of the Shorewomen is Louie Richardson, who finished his third season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division III program and in the Centennial Conference.

Washington is located in Chestertown, MD on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay and home games are played on campus at the softball field.

The Centennial Conference softball members are Dickinson C, Franklin & Marshall C, Gettysburg C, Haverford C, McDaniel C, Muhlenberg C, Swarthmore C, Ursinus C and Washington C.

#37 Meagan Walton

Meagan verbally committed to Guilford College in late October. The head coach of the Quakers is Dennis Shores, who finished his first season in 2007. They are a NCAA Division III program and in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Guilford is located in northwest Greensboro, North Carolina and home games are played on campus at the Haworth Softball Field.

The ODAC softball members are Bridgewater C, Eastern Mennonite U, Emory & Henry C, Lynchburg C, Randolph C, Randolph-Macon C, Roanoke C, Sweet Briar C and Virginia Wesleyan C.

The head coach of the Lions is Len Glowzenski, who finished his third season in 2006. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Lions finished their season with a 29-17 record overall and 15-7 in the conference. Georgian Court is located in Lakewood, NJ as the main campus.

#5 Kriston Mascino

Kriston verbally committed to attend Holy Family University. The head coach of the Tigers is Mickey McGroarty, who finished his fourteenth season in 2006. They are a NCAA Division II program and in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Holy Family is located in northeast Philadelphia as the main campus and home games are played at the Northeast campus. He has been a four time recipient of Coach of the Year honors (1994, 1998, 1999 and 2000).

#14 Kristy Ordile

Congratulations Kristy Ordile on your verbal commitment to Wilkes University on November 22!!! Way to go #14. You are simply AWESOME!! You have showed the Spirit how a great first baseman plays and now Wilkes University is going to enjoy having you there!! Awesome player AWESOME PERSON!!!

The head coach of the Lady Colonels is Frank Matthews, who finished his seventh season in 2006. They are a NCAA Division III program and in the Freedom Conference, part of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation. Wilkes is located in Wilkes-Barre, PA and play their home games on campus at the Ralston Complex.

#7 Brittany Racek

Congratulations #7 Brittany Racek on your verbal commitment to East Stroudsburg University on January 4. The whole Philadelphia Spirit family is so proud of you!!! You are a leader here at Spirit and you have made yourself and your team better each year by setting an example of respect for the game, hard work and dedication for eight seasons! Brittany, you are a major driving force for the Philadelphia Spirit, and we know you are going to do the same for the East Stroudsburg University. #31 Erin Thorn

Congratulations to Erin Thorn who just made a verbal commitment to Brandeis University on February 7! Brandeis was Erin's #1 choice! In just a few months playing with the Spirit, Erin is living proof that if you work hard, you can reach your goal you set for yourself. Erin worked very hard on and off the field with her e-mails to coaches, performing very well in the fall showcases and first priority was her academics! Erin, good luck and keep up the good work!!
